Squash in Bangladesh is continuing to progress following delivery of the country’s first ever World Squash Coaching Level Two Course.
The World Squash Coaching Level Two Course, led by Major Maniam, is taking place from 20-25 April and is being attended by eight coaches from Bangladesh as well as participants from India, Malaysia, Pakistan and Hong Kong, China.
On a World Squash Coaching Level Two Course, coaches develop a range of skills including: Long-term player development; Advanced skill learning Progressions for advanced shots; Hicks Law and anticipation; Match analysis; Introduction to physical and mental training’ Planning of group sessions; and Planning of a meso-cycle.
World Squash Coaching courses, delivered by accredited World Squash Tutors, provide a major boost for grassroots squash, helping develop the skills of local coaches who in turn drive participation and improvement among the local player base.
Bangladesh Squash Federation (BSRF) General Secretary Brigadier General Quamrul Islam explained that the course would allow the sport to continue to flourish after five years of sustained growth.
“In 2020, squash was a dead game in Bangladesh. Now [thanks to the work of the BSRF and innovative programmes such as the Classroom Squash initiative], boys and girls of all backgrounds are playing squash and this beautiful game has undergone a rebirth.
“To make the achievement sustainable and support further the efforts, BSRF needs skilled manpower including coaches, referees and other support staff. BSRF has run three Level One Coaching Courses and now a Level Two. Participants of the Level Two will be able to further the efforts of the Federation and Bangladesh, which as a country of almost 180 million people has a huge potential to promote squash. This course will help take squash to new heights in the future.
